Friends since 2009, Julie and Karyn share a profession, a love for sewing and a desire to become their own bosses.
Let’s be honest, there is no perfect moment to have a baby, go on vacation, adopt a pet, break up with a significant other, or start a business. While quarantining together outside the city, the dining room table in their rental home was covered in notions and patterns, the laundry room had a variety of fabric pieces either in the wash or in the midst of becoming a garment, and the kitchen floor was often a no-go zone where patterns were laid out and cut down.
Before quarantining together, Julie printed pattern pdfs on letter-sized paper, which she laboriously taped together; Karyn couldn’t bother and placed orders to have her pdfs printed onto wide-format tissue paper. One evening over shared fresh-air cocktails the idea for Brooklyn Motif Printing germinated.
Julie and Karyn are committed to sustainability, supporting small business, and the United States Postal Service. They are all inclusive, and do not intentionally discriminate.
Julie and Karyn use biodegradable mailers and packaging materials, purchased from EcoEnclose. They also support other women owned business such as The Stamp Maker. They bank responsibly with Amalgamated Bank, the largest American B Corp Bank. All orders will ship using the United States Postal Service.
Julie and Karyn are information professionals with side obsessions in sewing. They want what you want: to sew; not to tape.
Let’s get sewing!
