FAQS
FAQS
Why should I have my patterns printed on wide format paper rather than on 8.5 x 11" at home?
We suggest printing on oversize paper and then tracing your desired size(s) onto tracing paper. You'll save money by printing a pattern only once. Also, you'll find that taping smaller pages together will require an onerous amount of time and will degrade sooner than you think, requiring reprints of several or all pages -- and more taping. Less printing and taping means more time for sewing!
What type of paper do you use for pattern printing?
Brooklyn Motif Printing uses a premium plotter paper manufactured exclusively for the textile industry. This is much lighter at 60 GSM than the traditional bond paper offered by most print shops, but much more sturdy than traditional pattern tissue.
Do you charge extra for printing patterns in color?
We do not charge extra for printing in color. We print in the color range in which the sewing pattern is formatted.
What is the best way to send you my pattern file for printing?
What file should I send you?
Out of the different files you receive after purchasing a PDF pattern, you will most likely acquire a PDF file labeled as A0 or copyshop. Please upload the A0 PDF file for each item in your shopping cart. The other PDF files in your pattern order will usually include the printing and sewing instructions, a US copyshop file as well as a print-at-home PDF, which is sometimes called A4.
How do I determine the number of pattern pages in the pdf file so I can purchase the correct item?
Can you print specific pattern sizes?
Some patterns, like Ready to Sew’s Jazz Jumpsuit, are layered, which means you can choose to print specific sizes as opposed to all the sizes in the pattern. To figure out if a pattern includes this option, you can open the PDF file in Adobe Acrobat Reader and locate the layer icon in the left panel. However we suggest reading the pattern designer’s printing instructions to determine if they’ve incorporated layering. If you want specific sizes printed, please let us know when you are viewing your CART. There is a Notes section. If you have forgotten, feel free to send an email to karyn@brooklynmotifprinting.com with your preferred sizes.
Do you sell PDF patterns?
Brooklyn Motif Printing does NOT license sewing patterns for resale. We print those digital patterns that you have purchased separately from another shop. Each item on Brooklyn Motif Printing website is for PRINTING ONLY. We are a "service only" web shop.
How do you price pattern printing?
We price printing per page by the standard A0 length, which is approximately 48 inches long for a 1-page pattern. We use the international standard of A0 because lengths are much more consistent than US Copyshop lengths. We charge $5 for the 1st pattern page, then $2.50 for each subsequent pattern page. Our prices are also per pattern, because we enhance each pattern page with our branded masthead which includes the pattern name, the designer name, order number and the number of pages. Check out this IG post for a sample of our masthead.
We will continue to add to our Pattern Library to make ordering pattern printing as easy as possible. Please be in touch should you need our assistance when placing an order by either chatting us up in the Shop or on IG @brooklynmotif or by emailing us at karyn@brooklynmotifprinting.com.
Pattern printing is expensive. Do you run any sales or offer discounts?
At Brooklyn Motif Printing, we understand how expensive sewing can be as both a hobby and a passion. That's why we strive to support the sewing community as best as we can. While we do need to cover costs to keep our business running, we offer seasonal sales throughout the year with automatic discounts applied at checkout.
Additionally, we provide exclusive discounts for members of Seamwork, Closet Core Crew, Cashmerette Club, and Sew It Academy. Students of Christine Haynes’ workshops also enjoy a special printing discount for workshop patterns.
Several designers, including Forest & Thread, Madswick, Pattern Scout, and Wear We're Going (formerly FIBR&CLOTH), offer a small discount on their pattern printing. You can find the discount codes on their individual resource pages in their web shops.
Please note: Brooklyn Motif Printing cannot apply discounts retroactively. It is the customer’s responsibility to enter the discount code at checkout in order to receive the discount.
What forms of payment do you accept?
All orders are placed directly through our secure on-line shopping cart. The cart accepts payment from Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express with the options of using Shop Pay, Google Pay or Apple Pay.
How do you ship and how much do you charge for shipping?
We support the United States Postal Service. Both Ground Advantage and Priority shipping options are available for US customers. International customer orders can be shipped via DHL, UPS or USPS depending on the cost. Shipping costs are calculated at checkout, but usually Ground Advantage in the US starts at $4.50-$5.00 depending on the weight of your package and where we're shipping it. Priority shipping is a flat rate of $9 for orders weighing over 16 ounces and will be shipped in a Priority Flat Rate bubble envelope. For orders weighing over 48 ounces the cost will be $15 and shipped in a Priority Flat Rate box.
Please note that shipping is expensive. I am a very small shop that cannot afford to offer free shipping. Because of the platform I use for this shop, your shipping costs are less expensive than if I was paying USPS directly.
Is local pickup available?
Local pickup is available for all New York City residents at my home in the Windsor Terrace neighborhood in Brooklyn. My address and cell number will be made available when you receive a notification that your order is ready to be picked up. We will text ONLY to coordinate on a pickup day and time.
How quickly will I receive my printed pattern(s) after I place my order?
Orders are printed in 3 - 5 business days. USPS Ground Advantage shipping takes 3-5 days; Priority Mail is 2-4 days depending on your location. If you need your order expedited please email karyn@brooklynmotifprinting.com with your request.
What if my order is damaged in transit, never gets delivered or is incorrectly printed?
If for whatever reason your order comes damaged or gets lost in the mail, we will reprint and resend your order at cost + shipping. We are a very small business that cannot afford to reprint for free when the delivery service is at fault. However, for patterns that are not printed correctly, we will correct our error and will resend your order at no cost to you. For further questions or inquiries, don’t hesitate to send an email to karyn@brooklynmotifprinting.com. We will endeavor to respond to you in under 24 hours. For more information on receiving a refund on your order, please review our Refund Policy.
